After listening to some of Keith Jarrett's improvised piano concerts, I decided I wanted to make a record like that, but with a full band. I gathered up a bunch of guys that I could trust to bring an electric and eclectic performance. In the beginning, the theme was "Movie Scores". I told people my ideas leading up to the session. We went in there and the plan was to do 10 minutes here, 15 minutes there. Of course, some of the jams went a lot longer than that. I eventually abandoned all my ideas that I had up to that point once I heard the music that was being played. I even told the engineers they had "free reign" to do as they liked. They didn't disappoint, giving the sessions a great psychedelic vibe at times with their effects processors and the numerous room microphones to give us some more mixing options.

After listening back to the sessions and "mapping" out the best parts, I felt the songs could benefit with some overdubs. Three overdubs were recorded on December 16th. To keep the integrity and spirit of the sessions intact, the overdubs were only allowed one take.
